altThe UPFA nomination to election northern province will be filled with ex-LTTE leaders as a number of former LTTE hard-core members announced their candidacy under UPFA ticket. The latest addition to this wing is leader of LTTE Thamalini, currently in government rehabilitation camp in Vavunia's former wives.

 

altThe tension between the city council and Muslim communities in the area were increasing yesterday for attempted takeover urban council, the cemetery belongs to Muslim Mosque.
 
This Islamic mosque and the grave yard is located adjacent to the main road and Baticolo Kaththakudi, when officials of the city council came to the grave yard gain, it is reported that the heated words were exchanged between officials and residents of the area .
 
The police and army were called to calm the situation and residents said people in civilian clothes became part of the residents involved in a conversation with officials. after the clashes between residents and the armed forces, the situation is brought under controlled.

altThe Ministry of Higher Education has temporary suspended Twenty Peradaniya University students to attend lectures for three weeks. Earlier, many students from other universities also faced this suspension and university sources said these punishments are politically motivated. 
 
'Some suspended students were not in the university when investigated incidents happened' sources further said.  
 

alt17 year old student in Peradeniya area is reported to have hanged herslf. The investigation carried out into the cause of death said that the deceased had written a letter, No one is responsible for her death. The death body of the deceased is laying in the mortuary of Kandy general hospital and autopsy is due to be conducted on 8th of May 2013.

 

altThe wife of Asad Sali, the former Deputy Mayor of Colombo filled a Habeas Corpus befor the Court of Appeal yesterday pleading for an an order to CID to produce Asad Sali to any of the court in the country.
 
apart from this petition Mrs Risana Sali filed another petition before the supreme Court pleading for pronouncement that the arrest of Sali is illegal and order for release.  

 

altThe health officials state that 36 persons died due to the Dengue fever over the past three months.During that period 11,000 Dengue patients have been reported. Whatever the government says, until now it has failed to process a successful program to control spreading Dengue. As a result of this in every rainy season thousands are infected and hundreds die. Doctors who express their view on this issue question that why has a country which successfully wiped out Malaria epidemic in a time of lack of technology failed to eradicate the  Dengue epidemic.
 
The Ministry of Health says that five dengue risky areas have been identified and they are in Colombo, Gampaha, Kaluthara, Kurunagala, Jafna, ratnapura, Kandy Kalmune,Putthalam districts . The Ministry informs the people in theset districts to be careful. 

altThe British prime minister David Camron   will attend the common wealth summit which will be held in Srilanka.He has taken this decision despite the fact that numerous human rights organisation's calls to prevent from attending the summit.

 

altThe foreign media report that the Queen will not participate to the Commonwealth Summit schedule to be held in Sri Lanka.
 
 They state further the Queen is set to miss the Commonwealth Summit for the first time in 40 years. She has participated all the Commonwealth Summits since 1973.
 
Prince of Wales will come to the Summit in her place.

In the mean time, the daughter of Azad sally, Ms. Amina Sally said that her father was ill when she met him last time. 

altThe much debated road construction project run through the Sinharaja forest started again secretly, The Sri Lanka Haritha Movement said. The project which was started in 2011 in Imbulcanda area has halted by then environment minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa after considering independent committee report's suggestion that the project damages the bio diversity and the security of the Sinharaja.
